Manado and Davao established a joint sister city agreement to reinvigorate tourism activities within these two metropolitan areas which will consequently promote cultural and sports events. 

Through the establishment of air linkages between Manado and Davao, investment and tourism will improve for these cities. 

“It is my hope that connectivity between the people of Indonesia and the Philippines will be enhanced, since Davao is an economic powerhouse and Manado is both a business center and a gateway to many destinations in Indonesia..”, Dr. Sarajundahang stated. 

Trading is also the main priority for these sister cities that may contribute to the development of the local economies of Manado and Davao.

The locals describe the name of Manado in the Minhasa language which means “In Far Away”. The city of Manado is recognized for its thriving ecotourism because of the numerous tourist activities that it offers. These may include scuba diving and snorkeling. As the largest city in North Sulawesi, Manado is blessed with many beautiful beaches where tourists would have a difficult time choosing.

Popular tourist attractions in Manado include Bunaken Island and Lihaga Island. Located in the northern part of Sulawesi, Bunaken is a lovely diving site where tourists will enjoy the sight of the Sea Garden which is home to a variety of marine species and twenty diving spots.
