Serving as the protectors of Mother Nature, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio and Kitakyushu Mayor Kenji Kitahashi signed the sister city agreement in Kitakyushu which aims in establishing the Green City Cooperation

The goal of this program is to promote clean and green initiatives and improve solid waste management. Most significantly, Kitakyushu leads the way in the creation of waste-to-energy technologies.

In 2016, both cities signed the Strategic Environmental Partnership Agreement to develop solid waste management in Davao City. Officials will assess whether the aforementioned city has the capability to conduct these strategic actions for better environmental protection.

Kitakyushu is a reliable port for international trade as industrialization has always been on the run even from the past decades. Moreover, the government of the Meiji Period gave recognition to the geographical location of Kitakyushu that led to the creation of ports, railroads, and infrastructures.

One of the famous destinations in Kitakyushu is the Moji Port and Kawachi Fujien Wisteria Garden. Since the 19th century, the Moji port was an essential port destination and is also one of the centers of economic activities in Japan. Aside from the famous cherry blossoms that the tourists love, Kawachi Fujien Wisteria Garden is the perfect place to go if one wants to see the purple wisteria flowers. These flowers would usually bloom around April to May.
