Senator Shiomura Ayaka of Japan’s Upper House made a courtesy call to Davao City Mayor Sebastian Duterte last August 17, 2024, at Matina Enclaves Residences. Sen. Shiomura is a member of the House of Councillors, Diet of Japan, and was in the city for a brief visit. She made mention of her advocacies concerning animal welfare, politics for women, and rehabilitation efforts for victims of the Japanese earthquake for the last five years, including Filipinos seeking assistance in locating relatives or parents.

The Mayor of Davao welcomed the idea of putting up a desk for Japanese descendants in the city looking for lost parents or blood relatives. He further said he is happy to assist in this project as Davao has approximately 100,000 Japanese descendants. Japanese Consul General Mr. Ishikawa Yoshihisa and Director General of the Philippine Nikkei-jin Legal Support Center Mr. Inomata Norihiro accompanied Sen. Shiomura during the courtesy meeting.
