Chinese Consul General Li Lin met with City Mayor Sebastian Duterte in a courtesy call at the Davao City Investment and Promotion Center to discuss prospects in investment and cooperation. The Consul General was accompanied by managers of top Chinese companies dealing with road and bridge construction projects, telcos, engineering and design firms, some of which are already based in Davao City for years.

Also present was William Liu, Deputy Manager for the Mindanao Railway Project (Tagum-Davao-Digos Phase) of China Railway Design Corporation and Yuan Xiaocong of China Road and Bridge Construction, Philippine Branch.

“The people of Davao are looking forward to infrastructure projects like our coastal and by-pass roads, the railway and soon, the Samal-Davao bridge. As it is hard to strike a balance to have a peaceful and harmonious city while addressing the traffic problem at the same time, I recognize the importance of infrastructure projects and support we are getting from China,” the Mayor said during the exchange.

He added that Davao’s road networks aren’t enough considering the volume of vehicles at the metropolis and wants the citizens to be prepared for new developments.

Consul General Lin reiterated his support in this endeavor, in addition to the support of major Chinese firms to readily help Davao City achieve the completion of its infrastructure projects.

Geared towards this direction was a proposal for the establishment of an association of Chinese enterprises- Davao Chapter. Such move is “symbolic of Davao City being a dynamic city with good leadership”. According to Consul General Lin, this is why a growing number of Chinese businesses are coming over.

The Mayor welcomed such development and extends his hand in principled cooperation for future partnerships and diplomatic relations with China.
