The Political and Public Diplomacy Counsellor of the Australian Embassy in the Philippines, Ms. Johanna Stratton, had a courtesy call with Davao City Mayor Sebastian Z. Duterte on July 31, 2024, at Matina Enclaves Residences. Program Officer for Economic Governance and Infrastructure Ms. Angela Aquino accompanied Ms. Stratton.
During the meeting, Ms. Stratton shared the purpose of her visit: to interview applicants for the Australia Awards 2025 and engage with its alumni, among which is the City Economic Enterprises Officer-in-Charge, Mr. Maximo P. Macalipes, Jr.
She also expressed the Australian Embassy’s goals to increase the number of Australian flights to the Philippines, improve Australian Visa access among Filipinos, and offer Australian Work and Holiday Visas to Filipino passport holders aged 18 to 30.
Ms. Stratton also conveyed the embassy’s aim to lower the Australian Government’s travel advisory in Davao City, currently set at Level 3 (Reconsider your need to travel).
