Municipality of Cateel observes best practices from the City of Davao

On September 17, 2024, delegates from the Municipal Government of Cateel, headed by Cateel Mayor Emilou C. Nuñez, participated in a benchmarking session conducted by Davao City Investment Promotion Center (DCIPC) Unit Head Mr. Christian D. Cambaya, Davao City Economic Enterprises (CEE) Manager Mr. Maximo P. Macalipes, Jr., and Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Davao Region Business Development Division Chief Ms. Lani Catalan.

To kick off the session, Mr. Cambaya introduced the functions and services offered by DCIPC to attract investors to Davao City. Next, Mr. Macalipes Jr. presented the City Economic Enterprise’s best practices in managing the city’s public markets, cemeteries, slaughterhouses, and other enterprises. Lastly, Ms. Catalan reported DTI-Davao’s initiatives to assist local micro-, small, and medium enterprises, including reconstituting the Davao City MSMED Council and establishing multiple Negosyo Centers in the city.

During the Q&A, Mr. Cambaya advised Mayor Nuñez to explore partnerships with accounting firms to assist in updating Cateel’s own Investment Incentive Code. Delegates consulted Mr. Macalipes Jr. and Ms. Catalan regarding the best practices they could replicate to improve Cateel’s public market operations and encourage the growth of MSMEs in the municipality.
