Ambassador Koshikawa Kazuhiko reiterated Japan’s support to the development of Davao City during his courtesy visit to Mayor-Elect Sebastian Duterte last June 18.

Congratulating the newly elected mayor, the envoy wished Duterte of good leadership and said that the embassy will support the future projects of the city. He cited a study conducted by JICA regarding the city’s infrastructure master plan and flood mitigation, and offered financial aid and technical support for its implementation; along with other government projects.

“We’re not doing business here but cooperation”, the ambassador said.

Thanking the envoy for his generous offer, Mayor-Elect Duterte said that he wants current partnership projects to be completed first before beginning a new one, emphasizing that prioritization is necessary so as to fit the capacity of the LGU to effectively accommodate work demands necessary for new undertakings.

Japan and Davao’s current partnership projects include the Davao City Bypass Road Construction Project and the proposed Waste to Energy project.

The courtesy visit of Ambassador Koshikawa was also attended by Honorary Consul Ishikawa Yoshihisa, Consulate General of Japan in Davao, Ms. Koike Yukari, First Secretary of the Embassy of Japan in Manila, Hon. Augusto Javier G. Campos III, Chairperson-Sangguniang Panlungsod Committee on International Relation, and Ms. April Marie Dayap, of the Davao City Investment Promotion Center.
